Raising Money for Licensure

Hey everyone! So it's time to get real! My name is Jen Riley and I'm the store owner and maker of fine knitted and crocheted goods. I'm also a mom of 2 adorable kids, a wife to a crazily overworked husband and a graduate student who is in her last semester (woot!).

This past semester and presently I've been working in an unpaid internship so my shop was hopefully going to fund my yarn habit/addiction . The internship has been me working as a counselor at my county clinic, which I have just LOVED! But as the internship wrap up I've got a looming problem.. I need to pay for my licensure to be licensed in NYS as a Mental Health Counselor.

Folks, this is what I'm passionate about (besides yarn lol). No really, I love being a counselor. Doing the internship has touched me and made me feel purposeful and loving to people in a way that no other job ever has and I love it. But now its time to get my license so that I can practice and it costs $371 to initially apply for my license. You can see the costs under NYSED.gov under Office of Professions and Licensure.

So here's the thing. I need to sell. If I sold everything on my shop right now, I would raise over $500. So this is what I'm going to do to raise this money. If there is something in my shop that you like but find it a tad above your budget, custom order me and give me a number. Seriously. I'm willing to negotiate to raise money for my licensure. If you have a custom order you've been thinking about, please contact me and I'll make you such a deal. I need to raise this money, please help a woman out.

L'Acadie Cardigan and Double Knitting Fun :D

So the blog post is late due to the Super Bowl, kids, and me being sick. So an update on what is brewing in the household. For the Super Bowl I decided I wanted to cook, but being sick threw quite the wrench in those plans. Still, I managed to pull off a Broccoli Cheese Soup with ham in bread bowls (recipe found here: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ree-drummond/broccoli-cheese-soup-recipe.html)

Crafting-wise though I did manage to finish a sweater today. It's called the L'Acadie Cardigan and the pattern can be found Interweave Knits 2014 Winter magazine.  I wish the pictures were better, but I'm quite fond of the sleeve cuffs:

Double knitting is something that takes a lot more concentration then normal knitting, but the affect can be quite fetching! Right now I'm working on a blanket for my cousin who is expecting. It's called Animals in the Garden and here are some preview of how its going.
Now down to shop business, there are four items expiring in the shop this month, and I have a coupon code for use if you shop during this month, its worth 15% off. The code is BLOGCOUPON.
The items soon to expire are:
